Emergency situations

In emergencies, your health comes first. Always seek medical attention immediately and all medical staff should be advised if you are an athlete subject to doping control. If your health depends on a prohibited substance or method, contact ASDMAC and you may be able to seek an urgent or emergency TUE.

If you subsequently test positive to a prohibited substance, but have a legitimate medicinal reason for the substance, you should check with ASDMAC to see if you qualify for a TUE to be granted retrospectively. The rules for the retrospective granting of a TUE are very strict and are rarely used. You should not rely on being granted a retrospective TUE, you should always apply prior to consuming your medication.
If approval is required in less than seven days (urgent) or treatment must be commenced immediately (emergency) then the procedure below should be followed.

In-office hours (9am-5pm Mon-Fri EST)

  • Phone ASDMAC secretariat on +61 (0)2 6222 4232.
  • If necessary, the treating doctor may discuss the case with an ASDMAC member.
  • In emergency cases a provisional TUE approval may be given over the phone.
    • Such approval may be subject to conditions, particularly:
      • the health of the athlete is endangered and the medical condition    justifies the treatment and needs immediate application
      • that there is no reasonable permitted therapeutic alternative.
    • Approval, if granted, will be formalised when the ASDMAC TUE application form and all supporting documentation is submitted to ASDMAC’s secretariat within a specified timeframe.
