Committee Governance

Under the ASADA Act, the ASDMAC members are directly appointed by the Minister for Sport for a five year period. Only a person who is a registered medical practitioner and has knowledge or experience in sports medicine, clinical pharmacology, endocrinology or another relevant field can be appointed by the Minister as a member of ASDMAC. ASDMAC members are required, under the governing legislation, to disclose any interest they may have in a matter if that interest could cause a conflict in their duties. ASDMAC members receive remuneration for their work for ASDMAC, and the Minister may terminate an ASDMAC member’s appointment as set out in the ASADA Act.

Privacy and disclosure of information

ASDMAC treats all sensitive information received in the strictest of confidence. ASDMAC has stringent privacy laws to help ensure that information received by ASDMAC is not disclosed except as necessary. ASDMAC may disclose to an athlete, or to the athlete’s relevant sporting administration body, information about a sample given by that athlete that has led to the entry of the athlete’s name onto the ASADA Register of Findings.  ASDMAC may also disclose to the athlete or the relevant sport sample information that was carried out by the sport other than at the request of ASADA and that has resulted in an atypical finding or an Adverse Analytical Finding. ASDMAC may also give information to a sport that is related to a drug testing program and is related directly or indirectly to a decision made by the ASDMAC to approve or refuse a TUE. However, ASDMAC may only give this information to a sport if ASDMAC is satisfied that the information will not be used for any purpose other than anti‑doping testing, safety checking or other sports drug and safety matters.
